Len Huard describes his first kickboxing match as the scariest thing he has ever done. Nowadays, he is hooked on (kick)boxing and sits on the board of the Dutch Boxing Association. ‘Boxing is part of who I am. It’s a way for me to express myself. I’m not a dancer, but boxing is very similar.’

Len Huard had his first kickboxing match at the age of eighteen. It has brought him a lot. “I walked to the boxing ring on a red carpet. There were a thousand people around it, including people I knew. You don’t want to fail, but I was nervous and felt extremely anxious. I could barely speak. It was difficult to move. There I was, facing my opponent. I knew that we would be pounding each other with hundreds of kilos, with only a mouth guard and a toque for protection: not a pleasant prospect. Still, I managed to control my emotions and overcome my fear. This victory over myself gave me a lot of confidence and strength. It’s the scariest thing I’ve ever done.
